| The project area incorporating EL3873
contains gravity and magnetic anomalies that warrant investigating
as numerous mineral occurrences including uranium are located in the
Musgrave Block. Sulphides occurring in gneisses in the eastern Musgrave
Ranges indicate potential for Broken Hill-style mineralisation. Limited
basement exposure in low-lying areas and minimal exploration indicate
that the potential for economic mineral deposits is strong. Copper
sulphide mineralisation has formed as small strata-bound deposits
in granulites. A volcanogenic origin for the copper has been suggested
and similarities with the Willyama Inliers and Broken Hill deposits
have been noted.
Occurrences of primary uranium, copper and gold mineralisation
have been identified within gneisses and granulites of the Fregon
sub-domain. Additional copper, nickel, cobalt and chromium localities
are associated with mafic dyke swarms.
